Working in a field is a very tough job, especially during hot weather. Some job employments require the workers to labor in field areas like oil rigs, salt mines, electricity generators, etc. The weather and the location conditions become very lethal at times and surviving such a rough job becomes difficult. Extreme weather, high humidity, and strenuous physical activity can also cause stress, heatstroke, and other heat-related serious illnesses. Given here are some precautions for field workers to prevent themselves from threatening conditions.
Protective Clothing
The first thing to care for while working in a field is to look for the right clothing. Heavy, dark, and thicker cloth cannot resist the heat consequences, thus workers in the field should be given lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing that helps protect against heat. If the nature of work is tough that requires special suiting like working in oil rigs or mining needs special tough clothing for the safety of workers, then the workers should be given break after an interval of time to ease and relax their bodies.
Field Installations
Though field jobs do not offer lavish resting areas, certain cooling installations can help the workers to relax for a while. Aircon installations may help provide cooling equipment to far-flung areas as well. It often gets difficult to maintain proper electricity in a field area but new technology like Rare Earth Magnets can help to operate at least minor motors that can support a single fan of low voltage.
Stay Hydrated
Tough work under direct sun takes away the water content from the body thus making the workers dehydrated. Dehydration may cause several health issues for the laborers thus the company for which workers are entitled to work should take care of the workers and they should be supplied with clean, fresh water to drink while they are at work. The workers should drink plenty of fluids about 16 ounces before starting and 5 to 7 ounces every 15 or 20 minutes while they are in the field. Also avoid the consumption of alcohol, coffee, tea, and caffeinated soft drinks as they hurt more than help and dehydrate the body.
Damp Rags
Working in the field is not an easy job. To get along with the weather conditions and the work instruction, one has to take some extra measures. Damp rags are also a useful hack to avoid extreme heat. Roll a damp rag around your neck and use it to wipe your face as you work in the field. A wet cloth helps to release heat from the body and keeps the body less sweaty.
Take Breaks
The workers’ should be allowed to take short breaks to boost up their energies. Heat and sweat drain the body. The company should schedule such work timings that could aid the workers and avoid them from getting heat-related issues. Workers should take time for rest periods and water breaks in a shaded or air-conditioned area. This would ultimately increase their productivity.
